Facilities Rental Program

Capitol Modern is a one-of-a-kind indoor-outdoor location for special events, parties and film sets. Recent museum rentals have included local festivities like the Honolulu Magazine and American Savings Bank Brunch Fest 2019, and events for film and television including Hawaii Five-0, King Kong: Skull Island, and Go For Broke. In our museum, Second-Floor Courtyard, Front Lawn, Sculpture Garden, and Multi-Purpose Room, we can accommodate groups as large as 1500 from community organizations, companies, government agencies and private individuals.

Depending on availability these can be rented Monday-Saturday, 4:45pm-9:45pm, and Sundays 9am-9pm, but are not available on State holidays.

Available Spaces

Second Floor Courtyard

Maximum capacity: 180 seated dinner; 250 standing

Part of the original Armed Services YMCA, the second-floor courtyard overlooks our landscaped Sculpture Garden and can be accessed through the second floor Sculpture Lobby.

Available Monday-Sunday. Activity must not interfere with daily state operations or visitors.

Front Lawn

Maximum capacity: 600 seated dinner; 1500 standing

Our Front Lawn is fenced and landscaped, surrounded by Monkeypod canopies, coconut trees and areca palms. A sculpture walk connects Museum entries at Hotel and Richards Streets, and the historic Capitol Modern building is a stunning backdrop for any large event.

Available Monday-Sunday. Setup and cleanup allowed during state business hours.

Sculpture Garden

Maximum capacity: 180 seated dinner; 250 standing

Our ground floor Sculpture Garden has been transformed from its beginnings as a recreational area with a large swimming pool and bleachers into an urban oasis with pathways and nooks for reflection.

Available Monday-Sunday. Activity must not interfere with daily state operations or visitors.
