Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum
Join us for a special ocean-inspired poetry workshop celebrating our deep connection to the sea! Listen to moving live readings from former Hawaiʻi State Poet Laureate Brandy Nālani McDougall and emerging poet Hope Matsumoto. Parents and ʻōpio (youth) are invited to co-create short postcard poems dedicated to their favorite beaches, with the unique opportunity to record their readings for an upcoming community poetry film. Plus, stop by to pick up free ocean-themed poetry books courtesy of the "Maoli Verse" project (while supplies last). Come ready to listen, write, and share your voice! Free, all ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Presented by the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program, Symphony of the Hawaiʻi Seas, and Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum.
